Another Quad-core powered Android

Samsung users have expected a quad-core processor for a while, its direct competitors in the Android space like HTC and ZTE already boasting of quad-core processors. Samsung Galaxy S III meets that expectation and possibly opens the door for a few other Galaxy phones to go quad-core. The 1.4GHz quad-core processor is really doing its job, providing the needed power and performance to drive this super phone. Samsung Galaxy S III runs the Google Android 4.0 OS (Ice Cream sandwich) with all the new software features it brings to the table.

The Age of Massive Displays

After its success of the Samsung Galaxy Note, a mini-tablet/smartphone combo, Samsung is confident that consumers love larger displays. The Samsung Galaxy III comes with a larger display, a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display. Despite coming with a larger display, the view is crisp, thanks to HD quality resolution (720 x 1280 pixels, 306 ppi). The AMOLED display is protected with Corning Glass 2.

8 megapixels camera

The 8 megapixels camera features full HD (1080p) video recording, Autofocus, Smile detection, and LED Flash. One difference of the two cameras is that the Gallaxy S III can be taking photos and at the same time recording videos. It features a 2MP front facing camera with 720p HD video.

Network, Data, and Internet browsing

Samsung Galaxy S III features HSPA+ high-speed data with up to 21Mbps downloads. However, an LTE variant is expected to ship to the United States. Outside 3G coverage users will access data services on GPRS and EDGE. Galaxy S 3 accesses wireless LAN networks on Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n with DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct support. It can also function as a Wi-Fi hotspot. The phone supports Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.

A lengthy list for sure and pretty great for the most part. In addition to plenty of extra screen estate, resolution and processing power, the Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III brings a new, much larger battery, the futuristic sounding eye-tracking technology, and also hides several cool software tricks up its sleeve.

In fact, of all the rumored goodies, the non-PenTile screen and the 12 megapixel camera are the only ones which didn't make the cut, but we are not even sure you should feel too sorry about that. The subpixel density is still on par with what the S II offered, while the camera got a whole new sensor, thus it might still turn out to be a nice upgrade.

Pricing and availability

Samsung Galaxy S III will launch in the UK on May 29, 2012. It is expected in the rest of the world June - August with US launch of the LTE variant expected in June. Galaxy S III is expected to retail in the United Kingdom at 499.95 GBP (N127,000).
